One of the best-preserved examples of a 19th-century Victorian fort, Fort Nelson offers an unforgettable setting for events, surrounded by more than 19 acres of Hampshire countryside.
Built to protect the great naval harbour of Portsmouth, the fort combines impressive historic architecture, unique period features and spectacular views across Portsmouth Harbour, the Meon Valley and towards the South Downs National Park. With flexible event spaces, catering options and ample on-site parking, Fort Nelson offers a distinctive alternative to traditional event venues in Portsmouth and Hampshire.

When you hire Fort Nelson, you have exclusive use of all our event spaces for the day, with no other events taking place at the venue alongside yours.

When you hire Fort Nelson, you have exclusive use of all our event spaces for the day. We don’t host other events alongside yours, giving you and your guests exclusive access to the venue and its historic surroundings.
Your hire includes four distinctive spaces, each with its own character and period features:
- Our impressive Officers’ Mess is steeped in history, and
furnished with unique heritage pieces. It’s the perfect room to
use for welcome drinks for a party or event. - The Ante Room has been restored to its full Victorian
splendour and has magnificent views of the Solent and the
Isle of Wight from its large picture window. - The charming ‘Point of the Redan’, originally the officers’
billiard room, is a multi‐functional space and suitable for a
range of activities. The room layout is flexible and there is
access to the Palmerston Suite for break‐out groups and/or
refreshments. - The Palmerston Suite provides a flexible additional space, the ideal space for break out groups and/or refreshments.
