From a prestige armoury to the quiet discipline of a modern desk
Taking design inspiration from Henry VIII’s prestige armour making workshop at Greenwich was a natural complement to Onoto’s portfolio of quintessentially British inspired pens, as well as their preservation of traditional pen-making skills.
Among the symbols of royal power in Tudor England, few are as striking as the silvered and engraved armour made for King Henry VIII around 1515. Commissioned from European masters to be made in Henry’s new Royal Workshops at Greenwich, this masterpiece of Renaissance craftsmanship is displayed in the Royal Armouries at the Tower of London.
