Replicas, redefined.

Delighting collectors with truly accurate reproductions of treasures from the Royal Armouries Collections

Windlass Steelcrafts approached the Royal Armouries with an ambitious goal: to create a collection of replica swords that were aesthetically accurate, but could also offer a realistic 'feel' for what these objects would have been like in their time of use.

With this collaboration, history was not just to be observed, but held, felt and truly brought to life.

Research and consultancy

To bring this vision to life, Royal Armouries delivered a bespoke research and consultancy service for Windlass Steelcrafts, drawing on our decades of expertise in historical weaponry and access to our extensive collection.

To achieve authenticity, our curatorial team collaborated with Windlass throughout the design phase. This included facilitating the capture of measurements and weights of the historic originals and rigorously comparing prototypes side-by-side with our artefacts to ensure every detail matched.

Sold internationally across the US and European markets, the Windlass x Royal Armouries collection stands as a benchmark for quality and historical accuracy in replica weaponry.

Reforging History

For years I wanted to see truly accurate replicas of treasures from the Royal Armouries brought to market in a way that normal people could own, appreciate and study.

We can look at objects in cabinets, or photos of them, we might even have some measurements, but you cannot truly understand historical artefacts until you're able to hold and feel them, see how they balance and move.

With meticulous study of these pieces of history, we have created the most accurate replicas of weapons from the Royal Armouries that have ever been created."
