Trench Warfare

Moved by the powerful legacy of the War To End All Wars, your students will discover how the kit, equipment and weaponry of the First World War soldier created and was influenced by industrial-scale warfare.
See our Trench Warfare Learning Resources for free videos, images and audio files to use with your pupils to enhance their learning.
Workshop Content
Following in the footsteps of the Leeds Pals battalion, students will get hands-on with a range of genuine and replica First World War weaponry and equipment to explore what life in the trenches was like and how the soldier experience changed as weapons and tactics developed through the conflict. Students will discover why the fighting in the First World War led to a stalemate and how soldiers attempted to use a range of weapons and personal equipment to survive it.
Students will re-live the experience of local recruits as they volunteered for king and country in 1914 as they are put through their paces by the fearsome Corporal Gibbs in an interactive, hands-on First World War military drill.
