Traditionally, spirits sold by cultural organisations feature their logo as the design focal point. We consciously departed from this aesthetic norm and sought to highlight a visual treasure of the collection instead.

Selection and Design

Through close collaboration with Coastal Distillery, we researched potential objects from the collection and offered support throughout the design process.

The chosen design displays, in the foreground, a rare elephant armour (the only near-complete surviving example on public display in the world) originating most likely from Southern India, and in the background a rich pattern of Indian origin with vibrant colour. This vivid pattern offsets the metallic grey of the armour and deepens the Indian influence throughout the design. Elements of the same piece are also used on the neck seal.

Combined, the images create a striking effect, with the elephant ‘leaping’ off the bottle.

Award Winning Delivery

At an after-hours evening event at the museum, the gin was officially launched into the market. Guests in attendance were treated to cocktails, a presentation beside the elephant armour that inspired the products design, as well as the first opportunity to purchase a bottle.

The success of the launch event was quickly followed by the product receiving two industry leading accreditations; a Great Taste star and the award of a bronze medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
