Travel back to 42 AD and place your pupils at the centre of the Roman invasion.
In this immersive workshop, pupils explore Celtic beliefs, Roman daily life and the power of the Roman army through storytelling, object handling and active drill, before reaching their own verdict. Resist Rome or join it? Your pupils will decide.

Curriculum Focus
Designed for Key Stage 2 History, this workshop supports the teaching of:
- Julius Caesar’s attempted invasions in 55-54 BC.
- The Roman Empire and its impact on Britain.
- The Roman Empire by 42 AD and the power of its army.
- Culture and beliefs, including the differences between Roman and Celtic ways of life.
What to expect
Your visit will include three 45-minute workshops delivered by in-character facilitators. The day will run 10am to 2pm, with lunchtime included.
Celtic Feast
Pupils step in Iron Age Britain and experience Celtic life through feast preparation, storytelling and ritual. Explore food, hospitality and oral tradition in this immersive retelling of Caesar’s invasions of Britain.
Roman Trading Post
Through a carousel of replica handling objects, pupils investigate Roman citizens, professions and social hierarchy. They explore what artefacts can reveal about wealth, status, citizenship and daily life in the Roman world.
Roman Army
Pupils examine Roman arms and armour, discover the pros and cons of joining the army, and take part in a Roman military drill to understand why Roman soldiers were so hard to defeat.
At the end of the day, pupils will decide if they would join the Romans or fight against them. Perfect for critical thinking and speaking and listening.
