With more than 6,000 fascinating objects on display, our galleries offer an inspiring way to bring your curriculum to life. From the magnificent armours of Henry VIII to the weapons carried on the battlefields of the First World War, discover how arms and armour have shaped human society, art, and culture across the centuries.

Our self‑directed visits offer free, curriculum‑based learning across a wide range of topics and periods. With gallery content spanning from the Ancient Greeks to the present day, our collection supports disciplinary and substantive knowledge across key stages.
Your visit can support the study of:
- Significant individuals such as Henry VIII.
- Ancient civilisations such as the Ancient Greeks and Romans through arms, armour, and military practices.
- British history from the Roman period to the World Wars, including armour development, conflict, empire, and social change.
