Christopher Smith

Christopher Smith is a Conservator at the Royal Armouries at the Tower of London.

Christopher Smith came to the Armouries for a six-week summer placement in 1986. He was trained under the watchful eyes of Ted Smith and Arthur Davies who ran the Armouries workshop from the late 1940s.

After serving an apprenticeship of several years making washers, tea, armour parts, and stripping firearms, he then specialised in the conservation and restoration of armour.

Christopher Smith completed building a replica of the Sardis helmet in 1992, which was on display in the War gallery in Leeds until quite recently. Chris has worked at both the Tower of London and in Leeds. He is now based back at the Tower where he maintains the arms and armour displays in the White Tower.
