Schools out! Time to head to Fort Nelson for the best day out in history.

This summer holidays Fort Nelson has a junior assault course (£/3+) which is back by popular demand, and there’s a brand-new Crossbow Challenge (£/8+). Plus, there’s Pizzas on the Parade, and light meals, drinks, and snacks in our cafe.

Fort Nelson is home to the Royal Armouries’ national collection of artillery. Over 300 big guns, representing centuries of historic firepower, are displayed throughout this massive Victorian fort. With acres of tunnels and ramparts to explore, come and discover the history on your doorstep.

With over 19 acres of tunnels, ramparts and artillery to explore, Fort Nelson is a space where imaginations can run wild.

Overlooking Portsmouth Harbour, this restored Victorian fortress is packed with artillery from across the world. Highlights include a 15th-century Turkish bombard cannon, a gigantic 200-tonne railway howitzer, and the infamous ‘Big Babylon’ Iraqi supergun.

There’s plenty for all ages to enjoy, including free family activities, an onsite café and regularly changing exhibitions.
