Self-directed Visits to Fort Nelson KS1-5

School children on a self-guided visit to the museum exemplify how the literacy programme combines immersive and engaging learning

Explore Fort Nelson your way, for free.

Bring your class to Fort Nelson for a flexible, self-directed visit packed with real places, powerful stories and big learning opportunities. From Victorian barrack rooms to atmospheric tunnels, ramparts, ammunition bunkers and one of the most remarkable artillery collections in the country, the fort gives pupils the chance to step into history and explore a unique local landmark first-hand.

Self-directed visits are ideal for teachers who want the freedom to shape the day around their own topic, timetable and learning outcomes. Fort Nelson offers rich spaces and objects to spark curiosity, discussion and enquiry.
