Step into Roman Britain and experience the rebellion that shook an empire. 

Travel back in time 2,000 years to relive the drama of Boudicca's rebellion against Rome in this immersive learning experience. Pupils build vocabulary, compare tactics and weigh competing viewpoints before choosing who to side with: rebel or Roman.

Curriculum focus

This workshop supports the KS2 history study of the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain, using Boudicca’s revolt as a dramatic case study of conquest, resistance, rule and rebellion.

  • History (Ancient Rome): pupils explore Roman Britain, the Roman army, Boudicca’s revolt, Iceni resistance, Roman rule and the impact of empire on people living in Britain. 
  • English (Storytelling, Oracy, Drama): supports vocabulary development, narrative understanding, role play, discussion and follow-up writing such as diary entries, speeches, letters or persuasive arguments from Roman or Iceni viewpoints.

What to expect

Roman Drill

Pupils will experience the iron discipline of Rome as they are put through their paces by Titus the Centurion in an interactive, high-energy military drill. Pupils will learn if they have what it takes to make it in the Roman army and learn how their training and equipment won the day.

Iceni Storytelling

Pupils will be transformed in Iceni warriors, joining a member of the tribe to relive the drama of Boudicca’s rebellion. This immersive, hands-on storytelling session acts out the key moments of the uprising and is sure to get everyone involved.

After hearing both sides, pupils will choose which side of the rebellion they support at the end of the session. Great for critical thinking, speaking, and listening.
