This year, as we mark the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day, our May half-term event will focus on the Second World War.
The daily programme will include live performances, battle stories and talks, plus a free museum trail and activity sheet.
Daily programme
There will be 5 live performances throughout the day, including a mix of combat demonstrations, battle stories and talks about weapons.
Performances will take place at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, but please see the daily timetable on arrival at the museum. We reserve the right to amend the programme without prior notification.
The programme will include a selection of the following presentations:
- The D-Day Landings
Discover how one man survived the largest ever amphibious assault on German-held France, based on first-hand accounts from American soldiers. - Weapons of The Western Front
Discover some of the iconic weapons used by both sides in Europe during the Second World War. - The Chindits
Hear the story of an audacious British raid that penetrated deep behind Japanese lines in Burma. - The D-Day Landings
Discover how one man survived the largest ever amphibious assault on German-held France, based on first-hand accounts from British soldiers. - Special Operations Executive
Learn about some of the dirtier tactics of British spies in the Second World War. - Weapons of the Red Army
The Eastern front of the Second World War saw some of the most vicious fighting ever experienced in human history. Learn about the weapons used by Soviet soldiers to fight the Nazis.

- The Victorian Sword Master
Learn about the Dreyfus Affair, a famous French military scandal that provoked a sword duel to first blood! - The Medieval Sword Master
Watch as our interpreters bring to life authentic combat techniques from the 15th-century manual 'Flower of Battle'. - Two-handed Sword Fighting

Learn about the exciting life of Dominic Angelo, one of the greatest sword-fighters of the 18th century.
New Gallery display
A new gallery display of Second World War weapons, including firearms and daggers used by some of the troops from Australia, Britain, India, Japan, and Nepal, who fought on in the Pacific after VE Day.

Admission is free but please pre-book your tickets to guarantee your visit.
