Private Tour for Patrons
Join the Royal Armouries' Keeper of Edged Weapons & Armour and the Royal Armouries' Librarian for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Edged Weapons store and a private view of the remarkable Ms 1.33 Manuscript.
Event Info
The Royal Armouries' Edged Weapons Store houses the museum's incredible collection of swords, maces, daggers, and staff weapons from around the world. Our Keeper of Edged Weapons & Armour, Henry Yallop, will take Patrons on a tour of the store, highlighting some fascinating objects in the collection.
The Ms.133 manuscript is a treasure of the Royal Armouries' collection. Also known as the Tower Fechtbuch or the Walpurgis Manuscript, it is the oldest-known manual of swordsmanship in the western canon. Dated to about 1270 - 1320 AD, it is a stunning work of medieval art, documenting historical martial arts techniques through a number of illustrated pages. Our Librarian, Stuart Ivinson, will uncover the object's mysterious history and Patrons will be able to come up close to this remarkable manuscript.
