Enjoy an epic adventure this summer at the Royal Armouries Museum.

To celebrate our exciting new exhibition - Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World, we're putting on some free events during the summer.

Watch exciting Mongolian horse shows including horse archery (22 July to 31 August), make your own paper ger (yurt), and follow the trail through the Asian and African Gallery featuring Batu The Fast, a Mongolian messenger and scout. All of these activities are free - every day of the school holidays.

Booking is not required for these activities, but we do recommend booking free general admission tickets for your party for the day you are coming.

And if you want to make your Mongolian Summer complete, explore our exhibition with stories and treasures from the Mongol Empire, many of which have not been seen outside Mongolia before. Exhibition tickets are £9 per adult, free for Under 16s and £7 for concessions.

Horse Shows

Wednesday 22 July to Monday 31 August

Come and see our dare-devil riders demonstrate the skills and mounted combat techniques Mongolian horseman used as they rode across continents building their empire. From mounted archery displays to two-handed mace demos this is a show you won’t want to miss.

  • Shows at 11am and 2pm, daily.
  • Free
  • Drop-in, no need to book.

FAQs
The horse shows will take place in the outdoor arena.

  • Seating: Seats are not numbered and are offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
  • Hot weather: The seating areas are not covered and there is no shade. Please bring your own sun protection.
  • Wet weather: The seating areas are not covered. Please wear suitable clothing.
  • Drinks: There are no drinking water sources in the arena. Please bring your own refreshments.
  • Toilets: There are toilet facilities in the arena.
  • Wheelchairs: There are 4 spaces for wheelchairs, plus one companion chair in each.
  • Accessibility: Lower tier seats will be available for visitors with access needs.
  • Pushchairs: Pushchairs and buggies are not allowed in the arena. There will be a secure buggy park in the museum.
  • Dogs, except for assistance dogs, are not allowed in the arena.

Staff and animal welfare is of paramount importance and Royal Armouries reserves the right to change the programme and cancel the horse shows without prior notification.

New Exhibition

Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World exhibition

Discover the story of how the unstoppable force of Genghis Khan overcame exile, murder and betrayal to unite his people and rule over an empire that stretched from Europe to China.

For the first time in the UK, see over 250 rare and exciting objects from Mongolia which will tell the story of how the feared Mongol warriors of the Steppe, masters of horse and bow, forged an empire that gave us the first postal system, paper money and a policy of religious tolerance.

Tickets for children under 16 are FREE. Please note under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
