Standing with Giants
Life-size silhouettes representing the 1,475 servicemen under British Command who gave their lives on D-Day and 50 French resistance fighters are displayed around the grounds of Fort Nelson in this powerful installation created by charity Standing with Giants.
Fort Nelson, overlooking Portsmouth, is a fitting location for the art installation.
The Royal Armouries stepped in to host the 'For Your Tomorrow - The People's Tribute' installation following a nation-wide appeal for a venue, to ensure it was on display in time for Remembrance Day, 80 years after the Second World War ended.
The installation has recently been on show at the British Normandy Memorial in France and its return to Portsmouth will be a symbolic homecoming for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
More than 200,000 visitors saw the installation in Normandy this year, but this will be the first time the D-Day tribute has been on display on the south coast of England.
'For Your Tomorrow - A People's Tribute' is open to visitors until 25 January. Pre booking is essential as we are very busy due to the popularity of the installation.
Fully Booked
We are now fully booked for all dates.
We want as many people as possible to be able to visit this tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we are asking for your donation to help keep this a free experience. We have a suggested donation of £5 when booking tickets. If you are not able to donate or wish to donate a different amount the suggested amount can be changed.
Group & School Bookings: Please email fnenquiries@armouries.org.uk.
Your free tickets give you general admission to the museum, any activities taking place and access to 'For Your Tomorrow - The People's Tribute'.

The 'Standing with Giants: For Your Tomorrow' display is installed throughout the site, including on the ramparts and in the moat, and can be seen from many vantage points around the Fort.
Many of the silhouettes stand on our large gravel-based parade ground. It is possible to move amongst these pieces and get up close.
There is access to this area for wheelchairs, though visitors using self-propelled wheelchairs to access this gravel area may need additional assistance.
Fort Nelson is a scheduled ancient monument with different surfaces and levels. There are steps of varying widths and heights, changing surfaces including paving stones, gravel, and grass. Some areas are therefore not accessible to wheelchair users or those with access needs.
Accessible toilet facilities are available in the visitor centre and Voice of the Guns gallery.
Parking costs £3 per vehicle – payable at reception.
Blue Badge spaces: There are a limited number of spaces offered on a first-come-first-served basis. If you have access requirements staff will be on hand in the car park to assist.
To protect the collection, pet animals are not allowed to visit Fort Nelson.
Assistance dogs are welcome at Fort Nelson, including in the museum galleries, visitor centre, café and outdoor areas, and we can provide water from our café.
