Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2,000 local people and organisations, and thousands of volunteers. Every year in September, places across the country throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences and it’s all FREE.
Top Ten Tours
This year for Heritage Open Days at Fort Nelson, two curators from our Collections team will take you on a special guided tour of their Top Ten objects, imparting fascinating facts and interesting insights about this world-class collection.
- Tours last 60 minutes (30 minutes with each of the curators).
- Capacity is limited to 20 people per tour, split into two groups of 10.
- Tours must be booked in advance.
- Accessibility: The tours are accessible. A lift is available between the first floor and the main gallery level, where some of the tour will be taking place. Fort Nelson is a Scheduled Ancient Monument with different surfaces includes paving stones, gravel and grass, and with varying levels. Ramps have been provided to access much of the site.
