Action-packed Armouries

Summer holiday activities for all the family
30th July - 10:00 am - 2nd September - 5:00 pm

Summer at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds will be full of exciting events and activities for all ages. Throughout the holidays at the Action-packed Armouries we will be spotlighting the amazing swords in our collection, from ancient Roman and Viking weapons to bejeweled oriental treasures. There’ll be combat displays, craft activities, have-go- sessions, sword-making demonstrations, film shows and dramatic performances to keep all the family entertained.

Weekday workshops
Every week of the holidays, from Monday to Friday, there will be entertaining, have-a-go sessions where you can learn some useful skills and fancy footwork. The workshops will be different every week – see below.

These fun workshops are suitable for ages 5 – 11 (parental supervision is required) / £3.50 pp / session times 11am, 1pm & 3pm / book on the day

30 July – 3 August / Elizabethan sword school
Learn the art of fencing from a true Elizabethan gentleman sword-master and his less genteel assistant. They will teach you everything you need to know to survive the perils of the Elizabethan court.

6 – 10 August / Squire school
Train as a squire in Sir William’s household: from swordplay to stable management and serving at table, have you got what it takes to become the perfect knight.

13 – 17 August / Self-defence with Sherlock
Learn the martial art of Bartitsu from the esteemed consulting detective himself. Holmes and his partner Watson will teach you the techniques and skills that saved his life from the perils of his nemesis the dastardly Moriarty.

20 – 24 August / Swordplay with style
Meet the master and his assistant as they prepare you for the pleasurably poisonous practice of 18th-century point work. Whether tis with point or pistol, our pompous principal and his pointless partner will teach you everything you need to know to not only survive but to thrive in this thrilling game.

28 – 31 August / Samurai school
Learn about the Bushido code, the traditional way of the Samurai. The sensei and his student will teach you the honour code and martial traditions used by the famous Japanese warrior class.

Toddler Tuesdays
These sessions are designed for our youngest visitors and will include hands-on play and storytelling. Suitable for under 5s / parental supervision required / free / Time 11am

Falconry Fridays
