Celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in style this Bank Holiday with a royal programme of events at Britain’s oldest museum.

There’s something for all the family at the Royal Armouries Leeds – from a Jubilee party to falconry displays; horse shows to a kings and queens’ treasure trail; and royal treasures such as King Henry VIII’s armour.

Museum director Peter Armstrong said, “Our links with the monarchy date back centuries and the Royal Armouries was one of the ancient institutions of the Tower of London. We are proud to be joining the rest of the country in honouring HM The Queen, with a series of events aimed at entertaining visitors of all ages, and from all walks of life.”

The programme runs from June 2 to 10, as follows. Museum admission is free but charges apply to some events:

Diamond Jubilee Party – Come and join us for a right royal knees-up during the afternoon of Tuesday, June 5, with music, dancing, games and tea-time treats. Free.

Royal Treasure Trail – Explore the galleries and find the royal treasures.
Free trail and puzzle sheet, plus prize draw for all correct entries. Daily.

Falconry – Experience the thrill of watching magnificent birds of prey in live flying demonstrations on Saturday, June 2, and Tuesday, June 5, at 1pm and 3pm.
Adults £4, children £2.

Falconry Experience – Get up close and personal with the magnificent birds. These unforgettable experiences are provided in small groups and supervised throughout by expert falconers on June 2 and 5, at 1.45pm and 3.45pm.
Adults £8, children £6, maximum 20 places per session.

Horse Shows – A breathtaking charge through history featuring some of the best stunt-riders in the business, on Sunday, June 3, and Monday, June 4, at 12 noon and 3pm.

Atkinson’s Horses in Action regularly perform on prime-time television and in blockbuster films. Recent credits include The King’s Speech, Russell Crowe’s Robin Hood and Steven Spielberg’s War Horse. Adults £5, children £3.

Jesters’ Yard Play Area – Create a colourful crown – plus lots more fun activities for the under 10s. £2.50 per child.

There’s also the chance to explore the national museum of arms and armour, housing 8,500 exhibits in five galleries – War; Tournament; Oriental. Self-defence and hunting.

The Diamond Jubilee activities are just part of the Royal Armouries’ Dangerously Entertaining events programme for 2012.
