Oakes, Sir Hildebrand


Sir Hildebrand Oakes, first baronet was born in 1754 to a military family.

Oakes followed his father into the army, and served in a variety of military positions until May 1810 when he was given the civil and military commissionership of Sicily. Oakes held this post until his health forced him to relinquish it and move back to England in 1813.

In January 1814 Oakes was appointed Lieutenant General of the Ordnance, and he stayed in this position until his death in 1822.
