Hunting weapons have evolved over the full period of human history, often being indistinguishable from those same weapons used in warfare.

In later human history more specialised weapons developed. They can all be divided into four categories:

Wrought iron does not rust as quickly as cast iron. At Fort Nelson the ‘Boxted Bombard’ – a large medieval cannon made of wrought iron – is still in good condition despite being left outdoors and unprotected for hundreds of years.
