Royal Armouries from home

Our three locations may be closed for now, but over the coming weeks Royal Armouries will be presenting you with online stories, activities and events on our website Stories, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in an effort to offer you some support and distraction.

Sign up for our online newsletter for updates for our online events, exhibitions and activities.

Behind the scenes

Ignite your curiosity and explore our objects and archives through our collections online and discover a new treasure every day. With over 70,000 examples of arms, armour, and artillery dating from antiquity to the present day, there is plenty to discover.

In Armchair Armouries our curators, live interpretation team and collections services will talk about collection highlights, insights into conservation and stories weekly.

If you have a favourite object you would like to see featured or a question about our work contact us on communications@armouries.org.uk. We would love to hear from you.

Activities for children

We will be bringing the best parts of our outstanding education workshops into a new digital Home Learning Hub with activities to entertain and educate. We will publish a new film twice a week on Facebook on Mondays and Wednesdays covering subjects from Vikings to Tudors and Romans to the Second World War. We are also developing activities which you will be able to download from our website.

Tudor Power & Glory

Before we closed our doors we were completing a new exhibition to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Field of Cloth of Gold and a supporting programme of Tudor Power & Glory events. Our exhibition is on pause but starting 11th April we will be bringing you events, activities, and mini talks online which explore the stories behind one of the biggest sport come diplomatic events ever held. A virtual exhibition will also launch in time for the anniversary in June 2020. We will also show you what goes into developing our exhibitions and events. You can find out more through our Facebook, Twitter, You Tube and here online.

Second World War

8th May marks the 75th anniversary of VE day. We are busy developing online content drawn from our forthcoming display at Leeds and our events programme at Fort Nelson, as well as fascinating stories from the Tower of London about the Armouries during the Second World War. Keep in touch with these here online and on social media.

Stay at home and stay safe

From questions about how a knight in armour exercises at home and quizzes to ‘On This Day’ updates, we will be publishing new content on our social media channels every day.

On our last day in the museum in Leeds we took this rare opportunity to film an almost deserted building. Watch the video to see the empty galleries.

We didn’t manage to film inside Fort Nelson before we closed the doors, but this drone footage shows our amazing fort from the air.

Support us

Even though the museum is closed our staff are busy working away at producing content, and where necessary still doing vital work looking after the collection, and preparing for the day we can re-open our doors to you. Find out how you can support us.
