Wednesday 3 June

Before they closed the doors to their Leeds museum the Royal Armouries were busy putting the finishing touches to a major new exhibition celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Field of Cloth of Gold, as well as a supporting programme of Tudor Power & Glory events.

The exhibition is on pause and the events postponed for now, but history is coming to life online with digital events, videos, activities, and
behind-the-scenes insights that explore the stories behind one of the biggest sporting-come-diplomatic events ever held.
Highlight of the online Tudor Power & Glory season is an online exhibition – The Field Of Cloth of Gold – opening online today Wednesday 3 June 2020.

Five hundred years ago in June 1520 two ambitious young monarchs – King Henry VIII of England and Francis I of France – met in France for a diplomatic summit and tournament in an attempt to secure peace for Europe. The story of the event, the preparations, the sporting contests and  intricate diplomatic manoeuvrings is told through the Royal Armouries collection, including items belonging to and worn by Henry VIII, images, animation and new publications.

As part of the Royal Armouries From Home digital experience there is an opportunity to explore behind the scenes with the museum’s curators, exhibition producers, technicians and event managers, as they reveal what goes into developing innovative displays and action packed events.
