Blast From The Past

Time: 6pm – 9.15pm

Part of the nationwide Museums at Night festival.

A rare opportunity to explore Fort Nelson and experience the noise and power of the big guns after hours.

Highlights will include the firing of the 32-pounder Victorian gun in its original position in the North Caponier, an underground defensive chamber with sights set on the killing fields outside the Fort walls.

Out on the Parade the mighty Sexton, an armoured veteran of the Second World War will be put through its paces.

Costumed characters and handling sessions will help visitors discover what garrison life was like for soldiers stationed at the Fort during the Second World War, and to find out more about the pioneering work of Florence Nightingale.

Notes: Fort Nelson is a scheduled ancient monument and contains areas of uneven ground. Please wear sensible footwear and warm clothing.
