Step back in time to 1915 and discover Fort Nelson’s role as a training and transit camp in the Great War, in a packed programme of half term activities including Creepy Crafts.

Fort Nelson training camp

Fun, interactive sessions suitable for children aged 5 – 10.
Join our new recruits and have a go at a variety of activities including light signalling plus marching and rifle drills.

Insight sessions: Meet Sophie Weston

Hear Sophie tell the fascinating story of her 18-year-old brother George, who joined up in 1914 and trained at Fort Nelson.

Women at war

Dramatic performance pieces about three different women’s experience of the war.


Storyteller Janet Goring will be reading three First World War stories, specially commissioned by Royal Armouries.
