Discover the strategic importance of this narrow stretch of water throughout history from Troy to the 21st century.

Speaker: Michael Forrest

Michael will discuss the history of the one of the busiest and most fought over stretches of water in the world, and especially its significance during the First World War. In 1915 the defences proved too strong for the British and French warships that were trying to destroy them, leading to the disastrous Allied invasion of the Gallipoli peninsula.
