An action-packed summer of fun awaits visitors to Fort Nelson with the return of our assault course plus a new, free interactive trail.

Children will love the challenge of the assault course – suitable for ages 5 –11. Tickets cost £4.50, pay on the door.

Families can also explore the 19-acre site on top of Portsdown Hill with our free ‘Fun at the Fort’ trail. Summer activities will run daily from Wednesday 20 July to Sunday 4 September and as a national museum, admission is to the Fort is free. Car parking £3.

Fort Nelson is the best preserved Victorian fort of its kind, open for visitors to explore its ramparts and outdoor space as well as its main tunnel. It is also home to the national collection of arms and artillery – a museum full of treasures from days gone by.

There are lots of picnic benches around the site, and our indoor café and refreshment kiosk will be open every day for light meals, snacks and drinks.

We do accept walk-in tickets but recommend pre-booking. Open 10:00 – 17:00 throughout the school holidays and bank holidays: Daily. Pre-book your tickets.

All events and activities are subject to change and/or cancellation depending on operational requirements.

Any changes to the programme will be posted on our website and social media channels.

If we are required to close the site to visitors we will automatically refund any charges for parking for the dates affected. Refunds will be issued within 10 working days.
