October half term activities

The Victorian age was one of discovery and invention. From warfare to constructing defences this new science and the development of technology changed the world.

This October half term come and explore the weird and wonderful world of Victorian science, with lots of hands-on have-a-go activities.

Victorian science shows

Our madcap Victorian professor will show you how these new scientific ideas helped in the building of Fort Nelson. There will also be fun and interactive experiments about flotation, construction and explosions. Plus lots of fantastic ideas to try out at home.

Shows at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm
Suitable for all ages

Junior navvy challenge

Are you as tough as the navvies who built the Fort? Have a go at wheelbarrow races, constructing keystone arches and loads more fun challenges.

Sessions at 12 noon and 3pm
Suitable for ages 5 – 10

Craft activities

Get creative decorating your own brick and add it to the wall to build a multi-coloured Fort Nelson.

Suitable for ages 3+ / £3 per child / Pay on the day
Drop-in between 10am and 4.30pm

Play sessions

Dressing up clothes and Victorian games.
Suitable for ages 5 – 10
Drop in 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm


Join a 30-minute fact-packed tour of the Fort and find out about its history and the development of artillery.
Free tours at 11.15am and 1.30pm

Insight talks

Fascinating facts about inventions and innovations.
Talks at 1pm and 2pm
