Gunpowder: Origins and development

Speaker: Geoff Smith, Ordnance Society

Gunpowder is generally agreed to have been one of the four most influential innovations in world history. This presentation reviews the evidence for the origins of gunpowder and suggests a more rational development. The raw materials are discussed and its evolution from small scale manufacture to a major industry. Some ‘well-known facts’ are questioned, and some unusual uses are shown.

This talk will take place at Fort Nelson. The Visitor Centre will be open from 6.30pm. Light refreshments will be served afterwards and are included in your ticket price.

Tickets: £5
