The Royal Armouries library and archive is open by prior appointment:

2pm – 4pm

The library at the Tower contains material on the history of the Tower of London and its institutions, including the Board of Ordnance, The prison, the Mint, the Public Record Office, and the Menagerie.

Palmerston's Follies

Fort Nelson is one of the ‘Palmerston Forts’, commissioned in the 1860s by Lord Palmerston, who feared a French attack. By the time they were completed, however, any threat from France disappeared. The forts gained the nickname ‘Palmerston’s follies’.
