Spear (magari yari or jumonji yari)

The terms magari yari and jumonji yari are applied to spears with additional blades; the latter term means ‘cross-shaped’.

This is an unusual and ostentatious example, with two extra blades of different shapes, possibly influenced by a European halberd. It is from the Edo period so was probably used for display.
