Group of spears (yari) and scabbards

This is a small selection from a large group of spears that formed part of the presentation from Tokugawa Iemochi to Queen Victoria in 1860.

This was part of the re-opening of Japan to international diplomatic relations from 1858.

All have hafts decorated with aogai (mother of pearl set in lacquer).
