Knights in Shining Armour to battle it out for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Trophy - Tuesday, 23 August 2011
Cheer on your favourite knight in shining armour as they clash head to head in an August Bank Holiday Tournament at the Royal Armouries Museum this weekend (August 27-29).
Experience all the thrills, spills and sheer excitement of authentic jousting, as knights don full armour and wield their lances in the battle to secure the ultimate prize – The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Trophy.
Watch the drama build through the heats, reaching a climax on Bank Holiday Monday during the parade and grand final.
Come early each day and pick your favourite knight and watch them put their horses through their paces – including a variety of stunts and tricks.
Museum Director Peter Armstrong said, “For sheer spectacle, it’s hard to beat the excitement and speed of the tournament. In true Royal Armouries style, this promises to be a great day out for all the family.”

- Heats: 16+ £5 /Under 16s £3
- Grand final: 16+ £6 /Under 16s £4
- Heats are daily at 12pm and 3pm and the parade starts at 2.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday
While you’re there, explore the rest of the museum – admission is absolutely free and includes daily tours of the Museum’s five galleries, packed with arms and armour from around the globe, including King Henry VIII’s personal armours. Also take the opportunity to get hands on with history in our free object-handling sessions and hear the stories of some of history’s most notorious characters.
Children’s facilities include:
- Commando Kidz – Are you up for the challenge of the Adventure Zone? This brand new outdoor attraction promises to be a big hit with the over sevens and adults alike, featuring an inflatable assault course, magnetic climbing wall, sky-high climbing towers and aerial assault course. (£7.50 for an hour-long session). Sessions run daily and begin on the hour.
- Jester’s Yard – For younger visitors, there’s a special play area, where children can dress up as knights and princesses, learn to juggle, and even make their own swords, shields and crowns to take home. There’s also a soft play area for babies and toddlers, plus a storybook corner and mini crossbow range. (£2.50 per child – suitable for ages 0-10).
