The Royal Armouries rolls out its big boys’ toys for Fathers’ Day - Tuesday, 15 June 2010

With Armouries Square full of vintage vehicles, and knights clashing in the Father’s Day joust – it’s time to bring your Dad to see our big boys’ toys in Leeds.
Britain’s oldest museum – The Royal Armouries – has lined up an action-packed programme of events to mark the Fathers’ Day weekend, including authentic medieval jousting on Saturday and Sunday (June 19 and 20), falconry displays, and “have a go” sword sessions for the kids.
Other highlights at the Clarence Dock event include a vintage double-decker bus display, live dramatic performances, and free tours of the national collection of arms and armour in the museum galleries.
Museum director Peter Armstrong said, “This is a great opportunity to give dads a special day out, with low-cost, exciting events aimed at entertaining all the family.”
Programme and prices
the programme runs on Saturday and Sunday:
Fathers’ Day Joust: 2pm, £2.50 adults, £1.50 concessions.
Falconry: 12 noon, £1.50 adults, £1 concessions.
Have-a-go Sword: £3 per child, minimum age 8 years, or minimum height restriction, 4ft.
Museum entrance, live performances and the vintage bus display are all free.
