Lyle basinet

Description

This type of helmet was popular in Europe at the end of the 14th century and is often referred to as a ‘pig-faced’ basinet.

This is the finest surviving 14th century basinet in the world.

In 1946 it was presented to the museum by Sir Archibald Lyle in memory of his two sons, who were both killed during WWII.
