Unravel the exciting past of this fully restored Victorian Fort. See hundreds of historic guns and cannon from every corner of the world, including the infamous Iraqi Supergun and record breakers like the world’s largest cannon ball.


Make a real splash, whatever the occasion; from a full civil ceremony and reception, to a lavish military mess-style dinner, a very special wedding anniversary or a simple Sunday lunch. Impress your guests with this unique Victorian setting and take in the stunning views over Portsmouth Harbour and the Meon Valley.


Fort Nelson is available for daytime and evening hire. From training sessions, seminars and product launches to exclusive use of the museum with guided tours and gun firings. Offering you and your guests a truly unique and historic setting.

The Redan

Our conference suite is located in the Redan, which originally formed the Officers’ Quarters of Fort Nelson. Facilities Flip charts, OHP and screen are included in the room hire charge. A laptop, PC projector and an AV suite (TV, VCR & DVD) are also available to hire.

The Point of the Redan

Our largest room is located in what was once the Officers’ Billiard Room. Accommodating up to sixty persons, the Point of the Redan is multi-functional and suitable for a range of activities, from formal meetings and product launches to away-day training sessions. Layout is entirely flexible and breakout rooms are included within the facility hire.

The Ante-Room

The Ante-Room, which is the proper name for the Officers’ relaxation area, has also been restored. This room with its large recessed picture window, formerly a gun port, has magnificent views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight and is the ideal room in which to impress prospective clients; maximum number thirty.

The Officers’ Mess

The superb Officers’ Mess, suitable for up to twelve persons, has been fully restored to its Victorian splendour; the perfect setting for board meetings, personal presentations, formal dinners and interviews.

Refreshments & Catering

With our new café style, self-service refreshment bar, guests and delegates can enjoy a break at any time and as often as they want. Catering is available for all daytime and evening events, using our selected catering partners. Formal and informal menus are available. Please ask for more details.

Gun Salute & Tours

Make your event unique with a live cannon salute, just to mark the occasion. Thrill to daily gun salutes fired from one of the historic great guns of the Royal Armouries collection. Special tours of Fort Nelson and its secret tunnels are also available, led by one of our professional guides.


Whether educating through the National Curriculum or stimulating interest through hands-on activities on a family day out, learning at Fort Nelson is all about discovery through challenging and entertaining activity.
