Children's event – Raiders of the Lost Fort

Children handling a giant snail

10:00am Tuesday 26th August 2008 - 5:00pm Tuesday 26th August 2008 at Fort Nelson

It’s a legendary children’s day out – and not only today!

At Fort Nelson, every Tuesday and Thursday during the Summer and half term holidays is an action-packed children’s day.

What you can see and do today…

Obstacle Course

Explorers have to overcome various obstacles and pitfalls in their quests – can you do the same? All day, on main parade.

Have-a-go Lasso & Adventurous Storytelling!

A trusty bullwhip can be used for lots of things – swinging across ravines, disarming enemies and taming lions! All day today (except during storytelling), learn the secrets of lassoing with a safe bullwhip. Also, listen to amazing stories of exploration and adventure. Both activities on grass above shop.

Archaeological “Dig”

Have a go at unearthing buried treasure – you might even take home a real Roman coin! On the main parade – £1 charge per child per “dig”. 11.30am-1.30pm & 2.30pm-4pm.

Creepy Crawlies

Adventure films aren’t complete without exotic bugs and beasts! So our team from Animal Encounters will be on hand in the Theatre all day with their snakes, scorpions, cockroaches and much more – some of which you can actually handle – if you dare!

Tomb Raiding!

At 11am, 1pm & 3.10pm, go on an expedition to find a golden god in an underground tomb. Starts in Redan Courtyard and concludes in the main magazine. Note that numbers are restricted in the tunnels, so you may have to wait a short while after the courtyard scene, but the tunnel scene will be repeated as necessary until everyone has seen it.

Costume Workshops

Get busy with paper, card and scissors and you can make yourself a trusty hat and adventuring gear (£2 charge per child applies). 10.30am – 12.30pm & 2 – 4pm.

Entry to the Fort and children’s events is FREE, although a small charge applies for craft activities.

Do something different and bring the kids for a great day out!
