Children's event - Medieval Mayhem

Three children wearing medieval helmets

10:00am Tuesday 19th August 2008 - 5:00pm Tuesday 19th August 2008 at Fort Nelson

It’s a legendary children’s day out – and not only today!

At Fort Nelson, every Tuesday and Thursday during the Summer and half term holidays is an action-packed children’s day.

What you can see and do today…

Hobby Horse Jousting & Castle building

Grab a lance, spur your hobbyhorse down the tilt-rail, and have a go at jousting – you might even win a prize! Located on grass above shop. Plus, build a castle! In the Artillery Hall.

Medieval Vegetables at War!

The Battle of Bosworth recreated with vegetables! Has to be seen to be believed! In the Redan Courtyard (behind café)

Knight Training

Train with safe swords and then take on the enemy in our Knight Fight sessions, on the main parade at 11am, 1pm & 3pm. Also, try your hand at medieval archery, with toy bows for the younger visitors and real crossbows for the older ones. Archery takes place throughout the day (except during Knight Fight sessions), in the arena.

Armoury Workshops

Get busy with paper, card and scissors and make yourself an English Great Helm plus sword & shield to take home (£2 charge per child applies). Sessions from 10.30am – 12.30pm & 2 – 4pm, in the Education Room.

Children’s Alphabet Trail

Explore the Fort – can you find all 26 letters? Collect an activity sheet from the Information Point beyond the shop and follow the instructions – it’s a great way to see the Fort!

Entry to the Fort and children’s events is FREE, although a small charge applies for craft activities.

Do something different and bring the kids for a great day out!
